Question What could this place be?

    "Llandydion" in Caernarvonshire?

This is what I'm reading as the place of birth of someone living in Edern on the Lleyn Peninsula in the 1851 and 1861 censuses.

Trouble is, I can't locate this anywhere on any online map or the road atlas that I have.

Perhaps it's a very small place, or a farm? Could it be that it doesn't exist now? Or maybe I've misread it.

    I'm hoping someone might know!

Did you have a look at GenUKI? The answers or possible answers to many questions are there.

GenUKI shows that Llandudwen is only three miles away. Any good?

Ah! That's one place I did forget to look.

It seems like a good possibility, but that's all I can say at this stage.

That gives me something to think about anyway -- thanks Peter!

Peter's suggestion of Llandudwen looks to be spot-on.

I can't find anything like Llandydion in the 1907 Railway Gazetteer, even allowing for the usual spelling possibilities, ("U" or "I" in place of "Y", and "DD" for "D")

The other faint similarity placename was Llandudno, but that is 41 miles away from Edern

Wonder if the 1881 Census adds anything to the info?

    Regards............Frank W

Thank you Frank W for taking the trouble to look up "Llandydion".

I am in agreement with you about Llandudwen. It seems to be the best fit and Llandudwen does look very close to Edern. When I look at the census entries again the letters "we" could be confused with "io".

I did wonder about Llandudno, but my bet is with Llandudwen.

Maybe some parish records will confirm this.
