Does anyone know about the best way of tracing living relatives and possibly trying to get in contact with them? I am looking for a Christine Lawes (nee Roberts) who would have been my grandfather's cousin. She was born in Cardiff in 1933 and married during the 1950's. The last known address is given on her mother's death certificate in 1979, but I have no further information after that. The address was still in Cardiff and I'd doubt if she'd moved since. I've checked the deaths up to 2004 and she doesn't appeared to have died yet!
Any ideas?
David

Write to anyone with the same surname in that town.
Addresses can be found via the phonebook.

192.com
Hi, I just found my mothers cousin by using 192.com and tracesmart they are both pay sites, but you can see if they are still on the electoral roll for that address. Good luck.

Electoral Roll on 192.com
I think I'm right in thinking that the E R records are incomplete. I believe they are only those people who did not tick the box on the voters register applications sent by the local authority. I looked for myself and I'm not there, which is correct. I DID tick the box and am therefore NOT shown. Has anybody any idea of what percentage are/are not in this version of the register.

Not sure how many opt out but it is only an opt out of the general version (the one for sale) the full version is still open to inspection.
It is also only a temporary opt out as the full version will be released after ten or fifteen years.
Cheers

The Salvation Army search for living people, might be worth a try.

It isn't them
I was lucky last week, using the Electoral Roll, to find a family of 3 matching at an address many miles away from where I thought they might be living. I would not have found them if I had to search the full version as it might entail visiting almost every local authority around the country.
Following a letter I sent to them I received a phone call - despite 3 matching names, including 2 forenames for each person and very similar ages, it is not the family I was looking for. Just goes to show how easily we can fall into a trap without carefully checking.Last edited by David Benson; 29-08-2006 at 10:54 AM. Reason: Followup

I've used TraceSmart once to track down a living cousin of my dads. Its a bit pricey, but if you are happy that you are on the right lines then certainly worth a go. The results will also list anyone else at that address who is on the ER.

Search for Free
Hi all,
This site claims to have 37 million names from the electoral roll - it is free to use but you need to register. I've used it for about two years now and have had no problems with spamming etc:
www.b4usearch.com
I think the list they use is a couple of years old but very useful none the less.
Best wishes
Brenda

Brilliant - I've found her! Living in the same road as 1979!
