    Smile Hepworth Windmill

Does anyone have any information about the windmill at Hepworth? On a visit to the record office at Bury we couldn't find anything, it wasn't even amongst a collection of index cards detailing windmills in Suffolk. We did find a picture in a book about Suffolk windmills but there was no information about it. Might it be possible to obtain a copy of the picture we found? I know it was a wooden construction, the whole of which was turned to catch the wind, on a brick base,
On the tithe map for 1817 is listed Samuel Goodman and then in 1845 his son David as paying the tithe. Would this mean that they owned the mill or just leased it and would it be possible to find out who it belonged to if not them? David was my GGG Grandfather.

For starters you might look at this web page:

    http://www.stantonwindmill.members.b...ex/history.htm

If you search for the word Hepworth on the page you will find a couple of mentions, although one of them sadly says the picture it has that claims to be the Hepworth mill isn't...

You could also go to that site's contact page and links page and find out a lot about windmills in general.

    Hope this helps a bit.
