    Question Kate Coffey last known in Methuen, Mass

    Kate O'Dea married Joseph Edward Coffey in Manchester, England in Sept 1908. Joseph died in Methuen Dec 30 1957. Not known how long Kate lived afterwards.
    They had at least one son. Does anyone know anything about this family?

    Hello.

    I have been looking in later records for Edward Coffey, son of Joseph and Catherine. There are/were lots of Edward Coffeys around. I found a WWII draft registration that *may* fit. There are a couple of Edward Coffeys in the Social Security Death Index, but I have no method yet for proving that any of those records are for your Edward Coffey.

    What we have so far:

    The 1930 Census, taken on 8-April-1930 for the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts, contains the following for the Coffey household:

    1. Joseph Coffey, age 43, Head of Household.
    A. Age of first marriage -- 23.
    B. Year of immigration -- 1925.
    C. Birthplace -- England.
    D. Father's birthplace -- England.
    E. Mother's birthplace -- England.
    F. Occupation -- Wool Sorter at Woolen Mill.

    2. Catherine, age 48, Wife.
    A. Age of first marriage -- 26.
    B. Year of immigration -- 1925.
    C. Birthplace -- England.
    D. Father's birthplace -- Ireland free state.
    E. Mother's birthplace -- Ireland free state.
    F. Occupation -- Spinner at Cotton Mill.

    3. Edward, age 13, Son.
    A. Year of immigration -- 1925.
    B. Birthplace -- England.
    C. Father's birthplace -- England.
    D. Mother's birthplace -- England.
    E. Is attending school.

    4. O'Day, Margaret, age 73, Mother-in-Law, Widowed.
    A. Year of immigration -- 1915.
    B. Birthplace -- Ireland free state.
    C. Father's birthplace -- Ireland free state.
    D. Mother's birthplace -- Ireland free state.
    E. Occupation -- none.

    5. O'Day, Luke, age 32, Brother-in-Law, Single.
    A. Year of immigration -- 1915.
    B. Birthplace -- England.
    C. Father's birthplace -- Ireland free state.
    D. Mother's birthplace -- Ireland free state.
    E. Occupation -- Chauffeur, Grocery truck.

    Immigration information:

    Joseph, Catherine, and Edward arrived in Boston 3-May-1925, aboard the ship "Samaria", which departed from Liverpool on 25-April-1925.

    From the ship's manifest, Joseph's nearest relative is his mother, who resides at 134 Oldham Road, Failsworth, Manchester. They list their final destination as Lawrence, Massachusetts.
