    Brad,

How about the following family from the 1901 census?

    Census: 1901: RG13/4836 Folio 51 Page 27
Address: 105 Maple St., Hirst, Northumberland
-- Edward EDWARDS Head M 63 [no occupation given] born Flintshire Buckley
-- Mary A. do Wife M 58 born Northumberland Backwat?
-- Sarah do Daur S 24 born do Longhirst
-- Edward do Son S 22 Coal Miner Putter born do do
-- Andrew do Son S 21 do Hewer born do do
-- Richard H. do Son S 19 do Putter born do do
-- Thomas do Son S 17 do do born do do
-- George H. do Grandson S 5 born do do

Does this look like a probable match for you? If so, it means that George is likely Richard's nephew not brother. I'll see if I can find them in 1891...

    Regards,
    Trish

    Brad,

You can find the same family on the 1881 census. In 1871:

    Census: 1871: RG10/5167 Folio 46 Page 22
Address: 38 Longhirst Colliery, Longhirst, Northumberland
-- Edward EDWARDS Head Mar 34 Coal Miner born Wales
-- Mary Ann do Wife do 28 Wife born Northd Earsdon
-- John do Son 1 born do do
-- Margaret do Daur 4 mo born do Bothal

And from FreeBMD [you've probably seen this]:
-- Marriage Record: Edward EDWARDS 3rd quarter, 1868 Newcastly Upon Tyne
-- one of the possible matches for Edward's bride is a Mary Ann HUMBLE
    -- Reference Volume 10b Page 62

    HTH,
    Trish

Mary Ann HUMBLE and family in 1861:

    Census: 1861: RG9/3847 Folio 40 Page 26
    Address: Private House, Backworth, Northumberland
-- Richard HUMBLE Head Mar 53 Coal Wagon Way Man born Durham
-- Mary Do Wife Mar 50 born Northumd Allstment?
-- Mary Do Daur un 19 born Do Do
-- Henery [sic] Do son 13 Scholar born Do Backworth
-- John Do son 10 Do born Do Do
-- Andrew Do son 7 Do born Do Do

Most of the given names seem to be passed down through the generations. Also, perhaps the birthplace given for Mary in the 1901 census is actually Backworth, not Backwat.

    Regards,
    Trish

    Thank you Trish.
Looks as if you had nothing better to do and got carried away. I really appreciate the help though. Will do some digging to see if any of his sibblings have the Humble second name too.

Oh, sadly, quite the contrary, Brad. There are many, many things that I should be doing. But tracking your Humble/Edwards connections through the years was just too hard to resist. [I had fun.] Glad to have helped.
