I live on a council estate and a few months ago and i was very upset when my 12 year old son told me that a drug dealer lived in a house a few doors away.So i decided to find more about these junkies by listening to the rumours from other residents who also have children. There general opinion was "yes i know they are drug dealers but its not right to grass them up".So i started to find more about these junkies on the quiet as i didnt want to put my family in danger. By listening to gossip i found a lot of information about them like when they had scored they let off a single rocket firework to let the local junkies know they had drugs, they dont use mobiles because the police can trace their calls. So i phoned "rat on a rat"and told them everything i had found out about them and i presume they passed this information on to the local drug squad. To cut a long story short they got busted and because they lived in a council house they got evicted. The really sad thing about it was they had a 3 year old child.
My big grump about this is the so called code of conduct you must not grass anyone up.I know they might fear being found out and worry what would happen if they informed the police but its no exuse for putting their children at risk to drugs by pretending they dont know anything about it.

I back up the well done!! We have some on our street, the police know all about them, they deal in stolen goods as well. They get busted as a regular police thing, but it doesnt stop them.
Our local park is a haven for smack heads in the day, and large gangs of drunken teenagers most nights from 6pm, they then all stagger home to their middle class homes and straight to bed at 9pm, leaving our council estate littered with empty and smashed bottles! some of the teenagers are local to the estate, but the vast majority are not.
The police seems to be powerless to stop them.

Well done to you!
It's a sad fact that people turn a blind eye or are too scared to do or say anything. We had the same problem a couple of years ago and lived in fear. We did speak out but it did take a long while for things to be sorted.
If people say early enough and nip things in the bud then I'm certain things wouldn't get so bad. As it is people like that get away with it and think they have the right to and it only gets worse to try and stop it.
Younger ones growing up like that think that is the way of life and is what you do.

Certainly, zyban's posts so far don't reveal very much of an interest in genealogy.
