    Hi Haylierose

You need to purchase the marriage certificate - Queensland records at this time recorded the names of both parents of the bridal couple. You will also get the father's occupation and the bridal couple's birthplaces, ages etc.

    Marriage Qld
    9 May 1864
    Godhartz ROSE
    Nancy BRIERLEY

i have their marriage certificate but the information for godharz rose is incorrect we think he made up his parents names and place of birth around the same time he changed his name im looking for information prior to him coming to austalia. all i know is he worked on ships since he left home at the age of 12 to be a cabin boy .

But WHY do you think he has lied, and changed his name? You also have to be careful relying on family stories handed down - sometimes they have a kernel of truth, other times the story gets mixed up completely over the generations.

It might be a good idea to tell the forum the parents names that he gave, and his birthplace, then someone might be able to tell you how to best go about finding out if in fact those parents did exist!

    best wishes
    Christine

By the way, there are some nationalities that do change their surnames with every generation, or even within the same families. I do not know much about it, just remember reading it somewhere. Again, once you tell us where he was supposed to come from, someone can advise.

Hi, here is a shipping list into Queensland, the rockhampton arrived on 17th June 1863, you should be able to get some records from this site, or further info as to where in Queensland the passenger list and crew list is!
