My 3 greats grandfather Joseph WHARTON was born about 1776 somewhere in England, according to the 1841 census. He married twice, had kids and died in Dumfries, where he lived and worked as an ostler from before 1797 till his death in 1841.
There are several possible baptisms in IGI in Cumberland and Westmorland.
Does anybody have any info on a Joseph Wharton who went North around that time, or info in a will or apprenticeship?
David Wharton

Wharton of Appleby. In 1735 Mary Wharton married John Clark in Kendal, Westmoreland. Are you descended from that Wharton family? I am trying to find descendants of the Clark side. But there were TWO Marys, one in Kendal, and other in Appleby. Mary died about 1803. If you have more information maybe we can compare. David Clark

Unfortunately I have made no progress and have nothing to add.
