Trying to see if there's a connection between a Charles VALLIS b. abt 1840 (according to 1881 Census) born Potterne, Wilts - occupation Pedlar and living at Etchilhampton Street , Etchilhampton, Wiltshire married to an Ellen (nee Lampard) and children Harriet Jane b. 1874, Henrietta b 1875 and Ellen b 1879.

and a Charles VALLIS b. abt 1837 who shows up as a son of Robert & Martha Vallis on the following Censi

Hi
Just checked the 1881 census and on the original sheet Charles is from Shrewton, it was the page boy Charles Burt who was from Potterton mistake there but it can be corrected if you tell them.
The ages are right and Ellen is from Compton.

I have also looked at the 1851 census, in Shrewton there is Martha Widow with 3 sons John Thomas and Charles who is 13, 2 yrs difference is ok. Have you got his marriage certificate you would then get his fathers name and hopefully deceased but not all put that on certificates.
