Is anyone able to tell me what a 'clicker' was/is?
The occupation is referenced in a 1947 South Australian Government Gazette and has got me stumped.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Many thanks,
Philippa

Hi Philippa
There is a reference to a Clicker, here:

I don't know if this any help?
If not, try a Google search for `clicker occupation' it brings up quite a few.

In England there were clickers in several industries including leather, shoemaking, saddlery and printing.
But might you not be better off asking in a specifically Australian forum?

Clicker Occupation
Thanks Glenys and Peter,
The 'leather' connection makes sense given other information I have. Why I didn't think to google it I don't know, I do that for just about everything else!
Regards,
Philippa

Clicker
A Clicker in the English shoe trade is a person who is skilled in the grain of leather and cuts or stamps out each part to make up the shoe ready for sewing, his skill makes the shoe look uniform.
