Thanks to all, particularly John, for all the information that has got into this thread.
It seems my g-g-grandfather was the William Partridge born at Felmersham and baptised at Bletsoe, son of Thomas Partridge and Martha Swannell, and that the Wright connection was Martha's mother, Martha Wright.
I am still busy sorting all the new relations, but the big problem now is establishing the identity of William's wife Elizabeth, mother of William Wright Partridge b 21/01/1812, baptised St Peter Martin, Bedford, 19/01/1813. Present prime suspect is Elizabeth Drewitt, who married a William Partridge at St Paul, Bedford in 1806, but where did she spring from?
Thanks again, FredP.

But FredP - It could well be Elizabeth Makeham of Biddenham, who a William Partridge of St Pauls Bedford married at Biddenham on 20/11/1806. They baptised a daughter Mary at Biddenham on 26/7/1807 born 29/11/1806, but she was buried at St Pauls on 26/5/1811. Witness at the Biddenham marriage were John Davis & Thomas Smith. (I have made a connection with these names)
The William Partridge to Elizabeth Drewitt marriage at St Pauls on 16/6/1806 had witness John Drewitt.
There are most likely two William Partridges the one in our family who went off to Buckingham & another - whoever ?. Plus I found a third (or a 2nd marriage attempt for one of the above) there are banns at St Pauls dated 26/5/1811 for William P to a Mary Foster - but could not find the marriage.
A William & Elizabeth Partridge baptised at St Cuthberts Bedford on 5/1/1809 a Martha born 23/11/1808 & a Elizabeth Mary born 28/2/1807. The birth of this latter daughter is too close to the birth of Mary P daughter born at Biddenham of William & Elizabeth; so I think these are the two different families. The Elizabeth Mary was buried at St Peters on 6/4/1811 age 4.
The William Wright Partridge was baptised at St Peters on 19/01/1813 (the register does say he was born 21/1/1813 !) & his father's trade was book binder.
William Partridge's sister Mary married John Haseldine at St Peters in 1803
So Fred - Elizabeth Makeham or Drewitt ?
Regards John
