Hi and welcome ZoeWe have already had a long and meaningful converstaion somewhere else on this forum about avatars. The result of which was that some of us - well most of us - are not allowed avatars
We can have a picture though which is what you are busy resizing no doubt.

Look at it from the other side of the fence. Let's say that it is your hard disk that people want to fill up with pictures of all sorts of things (e.g. pictures of tigers) instead of photos of themselves, which is the meaningful and intended use of photos in personal profiles and avatars.

I wasn't complaining really although it may have looked like that - sorry! On other forums I belong to we have avatars that are not photos, so that is what I am used to and thought was normal.
I have a tiger for three reasons
1) I don't have my photo taken very often (camera shy) so the last one was taken about ten years ago
2) tigers are on the endangered list - so I have a soft spot for them
3) it is my avatar on another forum, so I could use it here without the need for any computer knowledge - which I don't have yet.

Thanks for the welcome, Copper. What I was going to use was a graphic with my name on it. It is rather genealogy related since it was made for me by a fellow researcher. We met over a lookup and discovered that we attended the same school. In her private e-mail she had a graphic included in her signature. I complemented her on it and she sent me one with my name. It was very sweet.
Having kids, I'm usually on the other side of the camera and don't have many photos of myself (althought I recently made it onto a hunting forum that hubby belongs to!). Anyway, I don't think anyone wants to see my ugly mug plastered all over the forum!
Cheers
Zoe
