I found my ancestor (great grandfather) as a Porter at age 22 in the 1881 census. In the 1901 census he was a Shunter and finally in 1913, on his sons marriage certificate, a Labourer. I would like to know, if as a labourer, would he still be working for the railway (was there such a thing as 'labourer' on the railway) and can we have access to any railway records at all, even in the early 1900's?
Was his railway job getting more difficult and strenuous as he aged?

Thanks.
