    Default Lost Jones of Bedwelty

    Please could someone help me.
My great Great grandfather was Henry Jones a blind Harpist b in 1858 Bedwelty - according to 1881 census and his marriage cert. I know his father was Thomas Jones a stone quarrier and Henry had a brother James Jones - 1855. However I cannot trace Henrys birth cert and therefore have no idea who his mother was.On another census Henry was shown as being born in Bargoed not Bedwelty.
If it helps Henry married Rose Hannah Ricketts in 1872 in the Rhonda Valley Glamorgan.
i would appreciate any help and advice as am trully pulling my hair out.
    many Thanks

My Aunt Edith Emma Goodyer wed Samuel Llewellyn Jones, who's father was Henry Jones a Harpist. Edith Emma's mother is Harriet nee Bailey, who is my grandmothers older sister. I never knew my Aunt and I have only recently obtained her marriage certificate to Samuel Llewellyn. Is this your family? Regards Howard Russell (New Member)

    Default An irrelevant observation ...

For some reason, the title of this thread - "Lost Jones of Benwelty" - sounds very romantic. The fact that Henry was a blind harpist only adds to the appeal.

Hi, I was married to Edith Emma Goodyer's youngest son (Graham William Jones RIP). When I tried to research Henry Jones I found scores of blind Henry Jones' - very difficult to discover which is which without Welsh knowledge. Have some info on the Goodyer/Bailey side if that helps. Kitty

    Default Goodyer or Goodyear Family

William Goodyer born William Alfred Goodyer married my Grandmothers older sister Harriet Bailey, they had 7 children that I know of. Edith Emma, your Mother in law, Annie, William Thomas, Willie, Nellie, Violet and Ada.
I have birth certificates for all of them, marriage certificates for those that were married and death certificates
for all, except William Samuel Evans, who was Violet Goodyers husband, and Willie Goodyer. Willie seems to have disapeared and I cannot find any mention of his death anywhere. As for William Samuel Evans death, there are loads of people with the same name. I have your father in law's birth death and marriage certificate as well. I also have lots of info on the Bailey side of the family, with birth death and marriage certificates for most of them. I only have two photographs of the Bailey family. One is my Grandmother Fanny Hammersley nee Bailey, and the other one is of Arthur Hubert Fletcher and Ada Fletcher nee Bailey, who is my Grand mothers younger sister. Possibly you have some photo's. If you wish further info on all the Bailey side of the family I am willing to share. Regards Howard Russell

Hi Howard: some time since I updated my genealogy on this tree (busy doing 2 others). I must admit I took Willie and William Thomas to be one and the same person - so my mistake. You are missing Edith's brother George (born 20 05 1918 and died 4th Qtr 2003 in Nuneaton) from your list. He was married to Lilian Harrison (born 17 02 1922 and died 3rd Qtr 1998). They had two sons Rogers and Dennis. I attended her funeral at St Lawrence's in Ansty but was unable to find a grave on visiting about 5 years ago. The William Goodyear you cannot find (born: 29 April 1905) died on 4th September 1973 in Worthing (I have the death certificate). My late husband was very very close to him and indeed 'handled' his estate when he died. William spent many years at sea travelling around the world, went on to manage at the Cumberland Hotel in Marble Arch before retiring and then bought a small Hotel in Worthing - where he died. Unfortunately I never met him, but the family always spoke most highly of him. I was interested to see that you have Samuel Llewelyn Jones' death certificate, the family spent many years trying to trace him when he disappeared in the 50's. There were just too many people with the name to narrow it down. I wondered if he married again and had more children? I am more than willing to share bits of photos etc. (not that I have many). I try and put as many as I can afford on tribalpages.com you'll need to log into the site Taffy - Shoeman to view.

Default Update - Goodyer or Goodyear

Sorry Howard - I put Ansty for Lilian's place a funeral - it was Ansly Village. Lily and George lived at Ansley Common in Nuneaton - George worked at the pit just up the road. He'd spent WW2 at sea and Lily was in the ATS driving ambulances I seem to recall. Hope I didn't confuse your research. Kate
