It makes life easier if you quote the piece numbers
. Can you do this for the 1851 and 1861 returns? For Thomas (born in Sutton Coldfield) beside the PRs you can look for him in the 1841 returns.

hi there, many thanks for replying to my query, is the piece no and the reference no the same? i have some no for the census for 1851 not sure if it is the right one, it is - HO 107/2062 folio 426 page 10, and for the 1861 census it is RG9/2010 folio 37 page 16, i have not seen an 1841 census for staffordshire yet, could you please tell me how to get any parish records? for sutton coldfield i get a bit lost before 1837.

It is not possible from the 1851 & 1861 returns to determine if this is the same man. I would not worry too much about the age but I'm not sure how skilled you have to be a gun lock filer. PRs should be available at the county records office; a local family history group; LDS Temple or the Central Library.

hi and thanks for your reply, i am not sure if a gun lock filer was a craft or not. he did start out as a servant, but i guess it must have had something going for it,as he seemed to stick at it. maybe the pay was good!! thanks for the info about parish records

Some of the children of this family are listed on the IGI, including Joseph christened 8 March 1838. FreeBMD lists the birth of a Joseph Jackson, March quarter 1838, Aston volume 16 page 193. Aston registration district covers Sutton Coldfield.
The IGI also lists the marriage of George Jackson & Mary Jones.
