Default George Morgan born c. 1860 Staffs

My great grandmother's brother, George is on the 1861 and 1871 census returns, but I lose track of him afterwards. I can't match him up with any other George Morgans on the census, and a death doesn't appear in Free BMD. Mind you, neither does the birth at the moment!

In 1871, he is living in Brook Street, Colton

    Joseph Bentley/Head/75/bricklayer/Blithfield
    Elizabeth Bentley/wife/40//Colton
    George Morgan/son/11//Colton
    Elizabeth Morgan/daughter/9//Castlen, Devonshire [my g,grandmother]
    Mary Morgan/daughter/6//Colton
    Alfred Bentley/son/6 months//Colton

In actual fact, the Morgan children are Joseph Bentley's stepchildren.

Can any light be shone on George's whereabouts after 1871? Does anyone have him on their tree?

    Well, there's the following sort-of-possibility:

    1881 Census
Address: 2 Cape Lane, Birmingham, Warwickshire
    RG11/3005 Folio 62 Page 21

John COLLINS Head Mar 53 Carter [born] Warwickshire Tycoe
Eliza do Wife Mar 48 do Barston
Thomas do Son 15 do Birmingham
Mary A do Daur 11 Scholar do do
Fanny do Daur 7 do do
George MORGAN [transcribed as MORTGAN] Boarder Unm 20 Iron Furnaceman
    Staffordshire Smethwick

I know Smethwick isn't Colton, but the two are not that far apart... perhaps this is an entry to keep in mind while you rule out other possibilities. BTW, I scanned the 1891 census for this Smethwick George but didn't see him.

    Good luck,
    Trish

    Hi Trish,

Thanks for that. How on *earth* did you find him? Some of those entries on the census index do give me the pip!

I shall certainly bear that entry in mind.

    Thanks again.
