Would someone please be kind enough to see if there is a James & Elizabeth GATES with a son Frederick (born 1846)?
I thought that I had found my elusive Frederick in the baptismal records for St. Thomas Church in Stepney (birth date matched his birth date on the 1901 Canadian cenus) showing his parents as John and Eliza GATES. I just found Frederick's marriage registration from Canada but shows his parents as James and Elizabeth GATES. Is there any chance that a John and Eliza Gates gave birth to a Frederick the same day that a James and Elizabeth Gates gave birth to a Frederick?

Thank you Lynda, I will have to look for Frederick in 1861. Knew he would not be in 1871 because he came to Canada in 1865. Will also have to look for another christening of a Frederick with parents of James & Elizabeth.

Frederick Gates
Hello Sharon
I looked on the registration list for your Frederick - Births
Gates Frederic Edward 1844 Jun Lymington 8 173 (Hampshire)
Gates Frederick 1844 Sep Marylebone 1 173
Gates Male 1844 Dec Lymington 8 179
Gates Male 1845 Dec Cranbrook 5 83 (Kent/Sussex)
Gates Male 1846 Dec Cranbrook 5 89
Gates Male 1846 Dec Wandsworth 4 561 (London)
Gates Frederick 1847 Mar Hemel Hempstead 6 558 (Hertfordshire)
Gates Male 1847 Mar Islington 3 282 (London)
The Marylebone entry fits well with the 1851 census taken in March.
His certificate would confirm parentage and you can order it online.

Hope,
Thank you for taking the time to look that up. Frederick was born July 20 1846 so that one does not work. I know that it's not the Hemel Hempstead one either, I had ordered the certificate and the date of birth was off. I may try the other two.
