    Cool Garnett and Scovell

I have a George John Garnett married to Sarah Scovell in Portsea 3 sept. 1865
I cannot find any trace of Sarah anywhere can anyone help please. They both show on the 1881 census with their children but I can't find where they originate. On marriage cert. George Johns father is listed as George Garnett a Seaman, but Sarahs fathers deatils are just a line??

In the 1881 census, where is she shown as having been born?

This would indicate that she was probably illegitimate.

When searching for SCOVELL, try SCOVEL, SCOFFEL, SCUFFEL & SCUFFLE. All these name variations appear in Fawley parish register for the same family in the early 1800's, perhaps the Hampshire dialect makes them sound similar?

The no father as Geoffers said indicates illegitimacy, though if she is marrying under age may not be telling the truth, though often they give a false first name for their father to try and hide the truth.

    Smile Garnett

    Hi
I have a marraige certificate for my George John Garnett married to Sarah Scovell 3 sept. 1865. That doesnt mean he wasn't married before of course. There was also a Thomas Edward Garnett married same day same church to Maria Taylor (they sent me the wrong one first). I have found out Sarah was born to Caroline Scovell Nee Dear but Sarah's name on birth cert. is Sarah Ann Sutherland Scovell. I am told this indicates that the mother thought the father might marry her ata alter date. So guess he was a Sutherland. GeorgeScovell and Caroline Dear married at Alverstoke, he was a mariner.George Johns father is listed as Georgew also a Seaman.
    regards
    Jean
