    Default Census for NSW Australia

I am researching a George Pincombe who emigrated to Australia sometime between 1850 and 1875. At the time of his death in 1875 he was living in Waterloo, Sydney. It is not known how long he had been in Australia, his birthplace was Devon. I have not been able to find him on any passenger lists so far, and was wondering if I could access census data for Sydney during this period? So far I have only been able to trace info' for two census in printed format in a University library in Australia. Are any historical census for Sydney available online?

    Hi JillW,

Unlike the sensible Brits we in Australia have destroyed most census records.

Unfortunately for the period you are interested in no records survive.

    If you look at:

    http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/archiv...wales_3194.asp

it will tell you what is available.

Very few exist on line with some being available in printed or CD format.

    Regards,

    Default NSW census

    Dear Procat,
Thanks very much for the info. Not the answer I was looking for! I keep hitting so many brick walls with George. I'll certainly look at that website and hope it leads me somewhere. Probably down the garden path.

    Lots of Love

    Jillw
