Forum: General Chatter

Just a meeting place on the Brit-Gen forum where people can get away from the more "serious" stuff and have general discussions about topics other than family history.

  1. Cool Site clock !

Is the time on this site an hour fast or am i still an hour slow ! My last posting time said 10.50 and it should have been GMT 9.50 (21.50) I suppose this one will say 10.57 instead of 9.57 ! Confused Tracey just checked it says 11.07 !

  2. Desiderata Poem

I know this may not be everyones cup of tea (or coffee) but I came across this over the weekend and thought I would share it with you. Every Sunday afternoon I like to do a crossword in a womans supplement to keep the `old grey matter' going. Occasionally there is something that I have never...

  4. Uneasy Feeling

Dear Each, We all know the feelings of hope as we trawl through different records. Maybe, just maybe, we will find a 'missing link' or a whole new path to follow. I was trawling through a burials index on the Sussex FHS site when I suddenly realised that I was HOPING...

  5. Cool Easing the boredom!

Having waded through fiche, and cd's looking for relatives, and although it's interesting, I sometimes feel bored. The constant scanning of the names often produces a hypnotic state and I am sometimes unaware of the names I am looking at until a name jumps out and hits me. It brings me back to...

  6. Norton Fairfax Whitbourn Hazeldine found in California

Thanks to Peter Hazelden, my long lost and much sought Norton surfaces in the 1920 USA census. I can find a probable direct descendent of his living near Fresno in California, whom I would love to write to. Web searching for many hours gives me only his phone number and locality of Agoura Hills. ...

  7. Why you shouldn't upset your sister.......

Have just found the following in The North Devon Journal for the 21st July 1831 (although I don't think Montrose has ever been in North Devon!)- 'Died at Montrose, on the 20th ult., in the 91st year of her age, Miss Margaret Rose, sister of the Right Hon. Sir G. Rose, Treasurer of the Navy etc....

  8. Unhappy Our bmd records are going to India!

Looks like once again the general public get no say in what happens to our records, this only coming to light when it is too late to try & do anything about it as it is all happening in less than 2 weeks. Not sure if this means all bmd's right up to 2005 but I do not like the idea of my birth &...

  10. London

Friends, Please forgive me if I am a little emotional tonight. I am not a Londoner by birth but by upbringing. When I was a child, my dearly missed Dad, my step father, showed me the London he knew and loved. Last week I went to London and planned to do some FH research, as you do. I missed...

  12. Pure trivia

A recent TV ad. asked 'When did you last do something for the first time ?' A couple of weeks ago I did just that when I went to my first real gig and saw Rod Stewart at Sheffield Arena. I wasn't sure where to put this - perhaps Rod could start a new topic about the Law or The Old Bailey.
