  3. I've forgot...

I used to know but cannot remember... when an individual is mentioned as a kinsman on a record (in this case a 1675 Quaker marriage, though much more common in wills) what is their relationship to the main person in the record? is it nephew? I just can't quite recall.

My Brown family lived in Portpool Lane, St Andrew, Holborn in the 1850's but seem to have had their children baptised somewhere other than the local parish church. They were of nonconformist...

  12. Were they Baptist?

My g grandparents, both widowed, were married in a Registry Office in Briton Ferry in 1855. I have always assumed that they were Baptist because one daughter married a Baptist minister and both daughters were pillars of the local Welsh Baptist chapel. Were widow/ers not allowed to marry in chapel?...

  14. Unhappy Baptist records for Surrey and Middlesex

Where would I start looking for Baptist records in Surrey and Poplar and Deptford in the late 1700's and early 1800's? I was emailed a link to the Poplar Chapel...it was Baptist and demolished after WWII. All these years, I have been searching the C of E and now they might be Baptist.

  17. Spurgeon's Tabernacle

A family story refers to a great uncle who was a lay preacher: apparently he visited the family when my father was a little boy some time in the 1920s (they lived in Blackfriars, SE London), because he was going to preach at a nearby Spurgeon's Tabernacle that day. Would some erudite soul know...
