  2. Church Wardens

Would the CoE keep records of former church wardens from the late 18th century? If so, what kind of info will they have? Cheers, Kris.

  3. John Padfield, R. of Huntsham Devon Part I

After a dozen garbled previews, I'm giving up and trying a 2-part post. Rev. John PADFIELD became Rector of Huntsham, Devon in 1637. It appears that he attended Trinity College, Cambridge, entering as sizar in 1621. He shows up on the Devon Protestation Returns in 1641. He baptized 9 children...

  4. Red face Rev William Bell Mackenzie

I am after information and help on a William Bell MACKENZIE as I had always told he was a ggg (or so) uncle of mine ... but the indications to date are that he was, at best, a cousin. I possess a book of Rev Mackenzie's sermons (sadly with the early pages missing - particularly ix to xii of the...

  5. Angry Henry Wood/Woodd of Acton

I found Henry Woodd listed in the 1891 Acton, Middlesex census as a minister. I then checked the 1881 census where he is listed as a student of theology. How would I find out what church he ministered at? He died about 1894 and his family also disappears from later census records.

  9. FERNYHOUGH clergy

Hi, I am looking for any information on some FERNYHOUGH clergy in North Staffs during the late 1700s and early 1800s. The Revd William FERNYHOUGH was a minister in Stoke-upon-Trent, he died in 1782. It also appears that there was a curate Rev Wm. FERN(E)YHOUGH. According to the Stoke...

  10. "License to absent himself"... ?

I have a note that Roger Dokwra, who was vicar of Burton-in-Kendal, Westmorland, from 1409 until his death in 1437, "received a license on 4 April 1419 to absent himself from the Church of Burton-in-Kendal". Why would he require a license to do this and for what sort of reasons would such an...

James was an Independent Minister who trained at Hoxton Academy in Middlesex from 1800-3. He applied for a place in a letter posted in Yeovil, Somerset. I cannot find his birthplace, but suppose it was somewhere in Somerset, and am eager to know who his parents were. Any ideas ? ...

  12. Rev. Walter Sellon

I suspect that Rev Walter Sellon must be conected with the Sellons of Yateley, North Hampshire, but have never got him into line. I know little of him, (the Victorians said that he came over from France, but this is untrue). 1 SELLON, Walter, b: 1715 d: 1792 2 SELLON, Walter, b: Unknown in...
