I have an ancester, William Gambold, who was master of the cutter Pelham stationed in Beaumaris in the mid 1700s. Would service records identify any family information, or indeed his date of birth? Where are the records held? thanks.

Can anyone help with any info re Richard Middleton Wood. He was my 3x great grandfather. He was born 1799 in Kent and was listed as being a Preventive Officer in Kent. Any info would be most welcome David

My G.Grandfather served during the Crimean War, I have been told he served on several ships. His Name is Joseph Sherrell, b. Devon 1816, served with the Coastguards in Essex during the 1850's and 1860's.

Hi All My ancestor, at the baptism of his child in 1819, was described as a 'Custom House Officer'. At a later baptism, 1821, he was described as an 'Excise Officer'. Does this indicate a change of employer, promotion, internal transfer or were the terms used interchangeably?
