Welcome to the B-G Forums sponsored by Parish Chest Ltd..
We are delighted to say that, although we are a family business, Parish Chest is now the largest UK based online family history shop, offering a huge variety of genealogy products. Please do click the link above and take a peek at everything that is on offer.
The store may be large, but when you visit the Parish Chest, please be assured that you are not dealing with robots or a bank of computers, but real people.
If you need help, advice or just a chat, we are only a 'phone call away.
Parish Chest is very proud to sponsor british-genealogy.com and the Brit-Gen Forum.
This is where you will find postings about new suppliers, societies and products available at the Parish Chest. The Parish Chest is the largest, one stop, online family history shop for everything to do with genealogy and building a family tree. Get yourself comfortable, grab a cuppa, kick off your shoes and take your time browsing through over 36,000 family history products. Parish Chest has something for everyone.
Here at Brit-Gen, we are a community trying to help each other rather than just a family history forum. The forum is very large, but if you take your time and also read the FAQs, you will learn to navigate around the site quite easily. Below are main topic headings, each contains several boards which you are encouraged to explore and where you can post messages. Look near the top of the screen and you'll see 'Search' where you can look for messages that have already been posted about specific names and subjects.
Please remember to read the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
Don't just lurk on Brit-Gen as a guest. Get registered, introduce yourself and post your family history queries. I should mention that unlike some sites, you do have to be accepted before you can make a post (this is to prevent spammers, etc.) but acceptance shouldn’t take too long.
Tell us about yourself, how long you have been researching and the problems you are having (or had) when trying to trace your family history. Please DO NOT post your research queries on this board as it is ONLY for introducing yourself. Once you have made your introduction, please take a look around the forum and post your queries on the relevant boards.
If you have any problems posting a query, or just need to ask a question or two about finding your way around the forum, this is the place to do it.

Well, just as it says really.
Just a meeting place on the Brit-Gen forum where people can get away from the more "serious" stuff and have general discussions about topics other than family history. However, this is not the place for listing your favourite (non-related genealogy) TV programmes, nor is it an internet chat-room. Members of Brit-Gen who wish to chat in that way, should find a forum other than Brit-Gen in which to do so.
Stories and jokes to lighten the day. Please do not post any jokes that may cause offence - anything you would not be happy for your child/wife/grandparents to read. Gutter humour is not appreciated on this forum and will be deleted. Political jokes are best avoided as they may cause offence to others. Not everyone shares the same political views.
We are getting lots of repeated jokes, so please search this Forum before posting, to see if the joke has already been posted.
Post a message here if you want to attract another member's attention (Use their name or "handle" in the subject line)
Everyone has something that drives them crazy, so tell us about it here. Please, no personal attacks or flaming.
