I'm fairly experienced in genealogy, however I've not done any research in Britain before. I live in the U.S. and have ancestors who came over in 17th and 18th centuries. Most of the surnames are also fairly common, which doesn't help. Most came to Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina; as well as some who came to Barbados in the early 1600s. I've had success with my German ancestors once I've found their home village or town; however I'm not sure how to ascertain this for my British families. I would appreciate any suggestions or advice you might offer on how to proceed with my research.

I have been researching my family tree for some years now, using my mother's original work (on paper!) as a foundation. I'm looking for information on the Morgan family (Uzmaston, Warren in Pembrokeshire) as well as the Thomas family (St Issells in Pembrokeshire), particularly prior to 1820. My mother was a Healy.

I am a ex miner now a nurse I have been researching my family tree for some years of and on. The surnames I have been looking for is Williams and Jones which there is a lot of in Wales
The Williams side came from the LLandovery area near LLanelly in the 1870s and the Jones side came from Aberangall in Merionethshire
The other name I am researching is Tindal who came from Thornbury in Gloucestershire. my great grandmother was a Tindal

Evening! This is my first venture into the realms of forums as well as researching my family history! I have been dabbling a bit and have done relatively well but with an Irish background, it would seem that it could take several years to track down the 17 brothers and sisters of one line, let alone the parents and grandparents. Coupled with two generations in the Channel Islands, I think I may have my work cut out! Looking forward to gaining lots of tips and help!

I'm really enjoying my delving into the past lives of my family. I actually started some time ago, but due to work and other things gettng in the way had to put my research on hold for a while. Now I have more time to devote to the enquiries and the twists and turns of discovering the 'back stories' of my family. I have had quite a lot of luck and have managed to get back several generations already. I now want to add more flesh to the bones to build a picture of life and family. It's late afternoon in south Texas, what can I say? My name is Alice Kilpatrick and I've only been researching my family for a few months but I've had great luck so far. I was recently contacted by a cousin I didn't know I had, one of many, and he filled in about 200 years' worth of history in just a few days. So I was able to go from the 1700's to the 1400's in no time at all. I've gotten addicted to this search--I really don't want to do anything else right now. By the time I go to bed at night, I have names and dates buzzing around in my head like a swarm of bees! :willy_nilly: My fingers ache and my eyes are crossing but I've hit a wall and it's driving me crazy. So I'll get up and feed my furry, four-legged children--and maybe even myself, if I can stay away that long. Then it's back to slaving over a hot modem, trying to peek over that wall to see who's hiding behind it. I wonder if I have a problem...

My name is Jenni, I`ve always been interested in family history but actually start researching it about 18 months ago. My Nan who died 2010 used to tell me all about her family but now realise she didn`t tell me anything about her mothers or her husband`s branches. Now I realise she was more of a`Daddy`s girl than I think she knew herself. I`ve been very lucky with the records, photos, memorabilia & keepsakes that my Nan had. Regret not having started earlier.
I have been pretty lucky with most branches but have what I like to call a few `tricky ladies`, knowing the ladies in our family I shouldn`t be surprised. I am new here. The site was pointed out to me as having many military links for areas that I am interested in. I hope the relationship is long and productive.

My main reason for coming here is the Curragh Camp Forum. My ggrandfather, James Webster, was in the 66th Reg of Foot and was married at CC in 1870.

My other names of interest are: Rothery, Wisking, Phelan or Phalen, Ross, Smyth, Anderson, Martineau, Loughlin and Fitzgerald.

My areas of interest are London, Antrim, Belfast, Manchester, Derry, India, France and Canada.

I have been researching my Family Tree for about 13 years now. Most of it by word of mouth from Family members but the ones that had all the news are long gone now. So now I have to turn to the internet for help especially for those hard to find records.
