In researching my family tree I have now traced it back as far as a James Kirk b.1733.
I am now trying to trace his parents, which I think might be around the Durisdeer area of Dumfries.
In looking up the names of either James or John Kirk around this period, I seem to have many hits of a James Kirko, the famous Covenanter.
His parents were John and Agnes Kirko.
A million to one that I am related to him, but there again somebody is.
It would be nice to establish some further facts and details about him.
James Kirko was served heir to his father John in 1647, laird of Sundaywell, Dunscore.
On one occasion he asked John Osbtirn to bring his youngest son to see him, so by inference he had at least two.
On 13th May 1685 he was shot on the sands of Dumfries.
When was he born, did he marry, where any of his children christened or baptised?

I am brand new on this forum, so start by posting here with my query and hope I am in the right area.
My Father in Law was hospitalized at Walton on Thames from the period late 1917 till mid 1919 when he sailed home to NZ, while in the UK we know he had a relationship with a young lady for whom we know her first name, we also know her sisters name, but do not know their surname.
The two ladies were Norah and Dorie, we have several photos of them both, as also the girls with their parents, Norm's service records and paybooks show he was given leave to go to Kiddie minster at times, so we presume this is where the girls came from.
We have one photo of Norm early in the piece that has the following in his hand written on the rear, Mrs J Sutcliffe, Daleview, Cavendish Dr, Mattock, Derbyshire, this may have no bearing or relationship on the name of the 2 girls.
We have reason to believe there was a child born of this relation ship, Norm/Norah, we think a son, hence it would be in the period late 1918 through 1919 that the child was born, any suggestions please
