I have been reading the last post about the bandsman and have tried the links for marines & RN for my ggggrandfather Francis Tivey, he wasnt a bandsman but on his daughters birth cert in 1840 in Portsmouth he is down as a marine.
He is down on the 1851 Wales census as a greenwich pensioner age 40 and is down as a pensioner RN on his daughters marriage in 1857.

His wife and daughter are in Greenwich in 1861 he appears to have vanished as they do. but he is in 1871,81, in Greenwich and he died there in 1883, I have just sent for this certificate in hopes it may shed some more light.

Other than the ref in prvious post is there anywhere else I might look for his navy records?
