Hi everyone...Is there anyone in the Sheffield area who could help me please? I need to find the maiden name of my maternal Great Grandmother Rosanna Handley born in Co.Mayo, Ireland in 1838 . Rosanna and her family moved to Sheffield around mid to late 1840s (just a guess) after the potato famine in Ireland. She married George Handley about 1860 and had seven children, all born in Sheffield. George was a table knife forger in one of the steel factories.
I would greatly appretiate anyone's help.
Kind regards
Hunnyb22

Hi Hunnyb22 :)
One of the childrens' birth certficates will provide you with her maiden name.
If I've found the correct family on the 1881 census, then these look to be a few likely
candidates from FreeBMD
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Birth Mar 1873
Handley Jane Sheffield 9c 445
Birth Sep 1875
HANDLEY Rose Sheffield 9c 467
Birth Dec 1877
Handley James Sheffield 9c 489
Birth Dec 1879
Handley Sarah Sheffield 9c 455
If you decide to do that, you can order a certificate online at

best wishes & happy hunting
