Hi again.
Any idea where i can look to find somebody who is missing from the 1861 Stafford census? They could have been aged between 16 and 19 as i have 2 years of birth for the same person. As i am not very good with history was there a war on then or was national service around? Sorry if this sounds thick but as i said not to good with history.
Regards Joannie

Regards JoannieJoannie,
Did you also look for variations of the surname? There are any number of reasons for someone not showing up in the census but often the name has simply been misspelled or mistranscribed. Another possibility is that the person in question was at sea somewhere aboard a ship.

The commonest reason is simply that you haven't found him!
But there are plenty of other reasons - he might have been counted on a piece that's gone missing, he might not have been in the country, might have been sleeping under a hedge, he might have been in an institution and shown only by initials...
By the way, you say the Stafford Census - well, he might just simply not be in Stafford!
I wouldn't lose much sleep over it if I were you - there's no rule saying you must find everyone in every available census;)

Hi Trish
I have looked for variations but can still not find him it's his date of birth that is causing the problem. Guess he must have lied about this on his marriage certificate.
Thanks for your help
Joannie
