Is anybody else researching the Coker family from Tring...Henry... father William in about 1834. He was my husband's GG Grandfather and we can find out very little about him.

Hi Muriel,

I read the birthplace for Elizabeth as Bierton, Bucks a small village a few miles from Aylesbury and the occupation of Henry as a 'Silk throwster'.

The Hertfordshire Burial Record includes the following item ... 12 Nov 1843 Sarah Coker Age 53. St.Peter and St.Paul, Tring. FreeBMD quotes the certificate reference as December Quarter 1843, Berkhampstead District, Vol.6, Page 324.

Sorry to cloud the issue.

Regards ... Peter

Many thanks Trish and Peter,

Both of your replies are very helpful. Having been stuck on the Cokers for a long time it is good to get a bit further. I think Henry died in the Richmond, Surrey area, so once I have sorted myself out after moving house I shall get on that.

Hi Muriel,

There is no trace of Henry in the 1861 for Tring, but the entry for William reads ...

RG9/843 F.27. P.4. 18 Park Street, Nash, Tring.
William Coker Head M 43 Silk factory worker Tring
Elizabeth Coker Wife M 35 Bierton, Bucks
Rebecca Coker Dau 12 Tring
William W Coker Son 6 Tring
Fred Coker 4 Tring
Mary Ann Coker Dau 1 Tring

I searched the Tring PRs and traced the following christenings ...
13 Aug 1837 HENRY COKER s/o Sarah, singlewoman, Tring.
15 Mar 1818 WILLIAM COKERE s/o Timothy and Sarah, Labourer, Tring.

...There is no trace of Henry in the 1861 for Tring, but the entry for William reads ...Peter, you couldn't find Henry? Ancestry has him living in Tring in 1861 as follows:

1861 Census: RG9/843 Folio 33; Page 15*
39 Gravelly Furlong, Tring, Hertforsdhire

Henry COKER Head mar 27 Grocer's Porter [born] Herts; Tring
Sarah Do Wife mar 26 Bucks; Chesham
Harriett Do daur 3 Scholar Kent; Deptford

Judging by Harriett's birthplace, it appears that Sarah and maybe Henry were in Deptford, Kent for some part of the time between 1851 and 1861.

Trish

Hi Peter and Trish,
You are both working so hard on my husband's Cokers. It is interesting that Henry's mother was single. On his marriage certificate he gives his father as William Coker, a farmer!!!!! Henry Coker was my husband's GG Grandfather and his daughter Sarah J, in the 1871 census in Richmond, became the second wife of Raymond's G Grandfather, Frederick Nash, and his daughter Harriet, married his G Grandfather William Wallington. Thought you might be interested. Henry probably died, in Richmond, between 1871 and 1879 as Sarah remarried in 1880.

Thanks again,
MurielW
