Today marks the 91st Anniversary of the battle between the Australian Cruiser, HMAS Sydney and the German Cruiser, SMS Emden off the Cocos Islands in the Indian Ocean. It ended with the Emden beached and wrecked. My Great Uncle, on loan from the RN, was there. Does anyone have anyone else who was there? Although those involved were given an unofficial medal, made from Mexican Silver Dollars/8 Real Coins taken from the Emden, the crew of Sydney had to wait until 1916 to get their Prize Money.
