Hi Everyone
This is a bit of a cheat because the person I am trying to find out about may of only been in the R.A.F after WW2.I am helping a lady with her family history
and trying to find out about her father who she never knew. All that is known is that he was born in India, his surname was Biswas,he was in the R.A.F in the late 1950's and possibly before and after. We now think he was not an officer. We have no idea in what capacity he served or rank or where he served. The lady has been in touch with R.A.F Innsworth and the most they will say is that there was a person of that surname who enlisted and served with the R.A.F but will not disclose anymore unless we can come up with a first name or service number.I have tried leaving messages on several forces
reunited type websites appealing for anyone who may remember serving with someone of this name.I have also contacted R.A.F.A (Royal Air Force Association)with no joy.Has anyone any suggestions as to how I can find out about this gentleman?.The ladies mother lived in the Poplar area of London,
although we are not sure exactly how or where she met him.If he was with the R.A.F what would he be doing in Poplar.I have been told that the nearest
R.A.F base? was at Chigwell but that might of only been during WW2.

I am helping a lady with her family history and trying to find out about her father who she never knew. All that is known is that he was born in India, his surname was Biswas,Does the lady have her birth certificate? This should show her dad's name and occupation. With his first name from this, you should be able to get his service record.

If the dad did not marry her mum, and is not named on the certificate, have you tried any directories, the chap may only have served in the RAF for a short time and lived locally.

Sorry i cant help you but i did do a name check for Biswas on an Indian site i have and two results came up.

Marriage Records
Biswas Shishar Cumar 1891 Husband Unspecified Index

There are also 32 Biswas sir name interests on genesreunites.
Appologies if i am covering ground you have looked at.

Hi Geoffers
Yes originally the lady did not have a full certificate but she sent for it and the father was not named on that one either. She was illigitimate, the mother
never married Mr Biswas.I also thought one possibility would be telephone
directories apparently the BT archives has almost a complete record from there own history and their predecessors ie GPO etc.But there archives is in Holborn,LondonAlso he could of lived anywhere in the East end or Essex. The same goes for electoral registers for the late 1950's and unfortunately they are not listed by surname so you would have to browse all the streets in the area.If he had been an officer he would of been in the Air Force Lists but R.A.F Innsworth have confirmed that the one person they have record of with that name was not an officer.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi Tracey
Thanks for the information, although I was sure I had done a name search on friends reunited and genes connected I don't remember coming up with that number of interests in Biswas.I have had another look,it is interesting to see that one of them was born in the Tower Hamlets area in the late 1950's,which is when and where the lady who I am helping was born.I might
have to resubscribe to genes connected so I can e-mail the person with the Tower Hamlets connection.
Thanks again.
regards
Mike
