The 1840 Will of my ancestor,John Baker, states he resided with his nephew,at Hyde Fields, Edmonton,MDX. I have looked at the Old Maps website and see a Hyde Lane and Hyde Cottage. Can anyone enlighten me about Hyde Fields please? Thanks.

Have a look at this website http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.asp?compid=26937#n134 and go to the Common Fields and Pastures section where youll find some information.
From local knowledge and digging deep into my memory bank, Hyde Fields was an area which was south of the current Church Street, N9. Which stretched from Firs Lane to Victoria Road and probably included Firs Farm Playing Fields & Pymmes Park. This url http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=533086&y=193637&z=2&sv=533250,193750&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf will show you the area I'm talking about. You mention Hyde House, this was situated just north of Church Street, Church Street being the Hydeside Boundary. You will also see Hyde Park Avenue and Hyde Park Gardens coming off of Firs Lane. A friend of mine lives in Hyde Park Avenue (useless information).
On the map directly north of Pymmes Park, the estate is known as the Hyde estate and there is a public House in Victoria Road called the Hyde Arms. The original name for Victoria Road was Hyde Lane.
Therefore the area of Hyde Fields was quite large and there may have been a few agriculteral settlements in that area.
If for any reason the urls don't work email me direct on email@example.com.

Thanks for your response. The article on British History Online looks great and should give me a "feel" for the place. Will be referring to the site in the future. Cheers
