My ancestor, John Frazer, an engineer born in Scotland c.1813 according to the 1841 London Census, married Henrietta Gibling, widow of John Cooper, in London sometime around 1834. I descend from him via John David, Harry and Sydney Frazer.
Information regarding John Frazer from anyone sharing the same ancestors would be welcome. Also suggestions as to how I could possibly go about finding his parents.

Have you looked for his death certificate? Try the FreeBMD site.

Have you looked on scotlands people to maybe narrow it down for you ? . You cant download certificates in this time period but apparently they are working on adding OPR images to the site but it will give you the date of birth and parents.
My search on just John Fraser b 1811-14 bought back 99 returns but as i say if you know roughly where he was born in Scotland it will narrow it down considerably.

I have his death certificate (Brighton, Sussex) which confirms, roughly, his year of birth - he was 36 in May 1849 - so b.c.1813. Unfortunately it doesn't help me limit the area of research in Scotland.
To complicate matters he was recorded as Fraser in the 1841 census and as Frazer on his death certificate.

Does it give any names of Parents on Death Certificate?
Fraser/Frazer is in my line too.My 3xGreat-Grandmother was Rosanna Fraser
daughter of James Fraser-Gamekeeper & Charlotte Thomson.
She had siblings that I can confirm as Charlotte circa 1825,Mary 1821,Wilhamina 1831,Jean1832, Rosanna 1834,Joseph 1839.
In 1841 they were living in Mill of Albeg,Aberlour,Banffshire. with young Charlotte in Ester Albeg with the Shand family.
They are very long lived or liars on their ages,Charlotte senior dies in 1879 aged 86 with cause of death as "worn out with age" I know the feeling

Unfortunately the death certificate gives me nothing to go on, so it's impossible for me to latch on to any names or places. If I knew when and where he arrived in London I might be able to find siblings or parents in the same area and glean a little more information. On another thread I've asked for help in finding his marriage to Henrietta Gibling, sometime around 1832/1834 in London I would guess, but there are no results so far. That might give me a definite age and perhaps the name of his father.
