My mother passed away 5 years ago at the grand old age of 96, and she was a rock to all of our family. My older sister who is in her 70's took over the motherly task as head of the family, and after my mother had died, she gave me the following......I have just come across it again.

I said a prayer for you today and know God must have heard,
I felt the answer in my heart although he spoke no word.
I didn't ask for wealth or fame, I knew you wouldn't mind,
I asked him to send treasures of a far more lasting kind.
I asked that he'd be near you, at the start of each new day,
To grant you health and blessings and friends along the way.
I asked for happiness for you, in all things great and small,
But it was for His loving care, I prayed for most of all.

Well, it certainly worked for me! :)

Glenys,

That is really lovely. I have just returned from church having said prayers for my friend who is entering hospital today for a mastectomy tomorrow. I will make her a card an enclose the prayer, I am sure that it will work for her too.

Many thanks,

What PERFECT timing, I'll borrow that if you don't mind, as I've a couple of special friends who are concerned about their loved ones in Florida and a holiday resort in Mexico.
Hopefully they will be able to remove themselves quickly from the projected path of hurricane Wilma, to a place of safety.

Thank you so much Glenys and big sister too :)

This comes at a very appropriate time.

Early in September a dearly loved cousin died, followed just three weeks later by her husband - a double shock for their daughter and grand-daughter. I learned over the weekend that some kind and considerate person or persons had broken into my cousin's empty bungalow and trashed it - every drawer and cupboard emptied and contents scattered, a locked filing cabinet smashed open, total chaos. Fortunately, nothing appears to have been stolen (although it is hard to tell) and no graffiti.

Prayers have been said, but this expresses my thoughts for the family in a much better way than I can myself. Thank you.

Eileen, how awful! I am so sorry....words fail me!

I am so glad that this is of some help.....and I don't know why I was spurred to share it with you all. I found it very helpful and comforting at the time.

My Uncle died unexpectedly yesterday aged 79. He was of the old school, a gentlemen and very kind. I may send this to my aunt later as its very difficult to put anything into words at this time especially.

Whenever sending condolences to bereaved friends and relatives I include the poem 'I Am Not There', anonymous as far as I know, which was of tremendous help to me when my parents died and which I have requested be read at my funeral.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss Tracey, he sounded as if he was a very lovely man.

I'm glad if you think this may be of some use later on. As you say, it is often very difficult to put things into words at these times.

Sue, I also know this poem, and have heard it at several funerals. I think anything like this that can be spoken, gives comfort to a lot of people. It makes the Service that bit more personal.

I hope you don't need to have this read on your behalf for many years yet. ;)
