View Full Version : Bearley 1851 census
Does anyone have access to the 1841/51 censuses for Bearley, Warks and would be prepared to do a look up for me? Hopefully there are families by the name of Austin there. I am particularly interested in Frederick Austin (wife will be Sarah) and Ann Austin (probably a widow) I need to know their ages and birth places as both die before the 1861 census. Many thanks.
Jeremy.

Hi Lottie,
Many thanks for looking at the Bearley census for me. Basically Thomas & Ann Austin had children in early 1800's in Bearley and Frederick and Mary and then second wife Sarah had children there in 1820's & 1830's. I have found on BMD a Frederick death in1858 and Ann 1852 registered Stratford on Avon, I hoped these were buried at Bearley but they aren't. Sarah appears on 1861 census in Bearley as a widow and by 1871 is in Studley were other members of the family were. Why these people are not buried in Bearley or on the 1841 & 1851 censuses there is a mystery as they baptised many children in Bearley. Snitterfield is the next Parish so the Frederick Austin fathering the illegitamate child there is interesting but if he is the Frederick Austin in Bearley, neither of his two wives were the woman having the illegitamate child. Incidently they may not have been born in the Bearley area as the first recording of the name in that parish is 1805. If you have access to Studley & Snitterfield 1851 census and would be prepared to look there for them I would be eternally indebted to you. Again many thanks, Jeremy.

Hi Lottie,
Again many thanks for looking up the censuses for me. The William & Susannah and 13 year old Thomas at Hardwick in 1851 are the correct line, I did not know they were there, so thanks for that. John in Temple Grafton is William's brother. Frederick is causing problems, he has to be related but not sure how, he does baptise a son Frederick in Wootten Wawen in 1850 and another in 1855, possibly he is in Wootten Wawen in 1851? According to BMD he dies in 1858.
I had already found the Thomas & Ann at Brailes on 1861 census so unfortunately it can't be them. My Ann seems to die in 1852 (BMD) and I can find no trace of Thomas after the baptism of his last known child at Bearley in 1820, neither Thomas nor Ann are buried there. I need to find Ann on a 1841/1851 census. Thomas & Ann married at Budbrooke near Warwick in 1805 and had their known children in Bearley 1805-1820.

Hi Lottie,
I have now discovered John & Jane Austin you found in Temple Grafton 1851 census had a daughter Ann in 1852, this could well prove to be the Ann registered dead in 1852 as no ages are given prior to 1866 on the index. This has really put a spanner in the works as probably Thomas & Ann may well both be dead before the 1851 census. Swear! Swear!

Would you like the full details of census entries for John and William and families 1841/51!!
Have checked Wootten Wawen for Frederick in 1851 no joy !! Once 1851 comes online on Ancestry, with a National Index - we might locate him - he's definately not in WOR , have checked - only other possiblity for WAR is the Southern area ,which came under GLS Enumeration, but not index!!
Ref Ann do you a) know where she was born ?
b) her approximate age ?

Hi Lottie,
Many thanks for offering to send the 1841/51 census results on to me, that really would be kind of you. Yes Frederick is causing me a Headache, he has to be somewhere. Ann (Lane) was married to Thomas Austin at Budbrooke (near Warwick) in 1805 so I assume she was born about 1780, I know its a long shot hoping she may be on the 1851 census, especially as I think the one registered dead 1852 is now more likely to be John's daughter born in 1852. I would be interested in any Austins you find 1841/51 in Warks, not Birmingham though, hopefully. They were a rural family with occupations such as Shepherd.
