My grandfather, Thomas Maurice Davies served with the 1st Welsh in SA from 1899 to 1902.
I am aware that he may have been in the following areas:- Kimberley and Paardeburg. I also know that he received various campaign medals and was then transferred to India to the 2nd Battalion of the Welsh Regiment.
He remained with the colours I assume in reserve as he was working as a postman in Narberth, Pembrokeshire at the time of his marriage to Elizabeth Martha Rebecca Morgan of New Hedges, Tenby on 1st February 1908 at Tenby.
He rejoined the colours, serving with the 8th Battalion Welsh Regiment from the outbreak of WWI and then went on to Gallipoli and Mesopotamia where he was KIA on 22nd April 1916, receiving a mention in the War Diary of the same day.
Can anyone help me as to where I can get further info of the Welsh engagements in SA?
Regards
