Can anybody help

I am researching Thomas Henry Tambling born abt 1834 married Mary Ellen Walker born 1859 about 1874/76 Had daughter Elizabeth Ann born 1876
The family move to Runcorn Cheshire before 1881. The information I have to hand is that they came from Cornwall,Liskeard or Totnes Devon that is as far as I can get at the moment Has anybody researched this Name.

I am glad that somebody else is having trouble tracing Tamblings. I have some that are said to have originated from the Channel Isles, but nobody has yet found any real proof of this. To complicate matters, Alfred Tambling, the one that married my great-great aunt Annie Tucker, is thought to have been fostered.

Anyhow, I will check with those that are more seriously researching the name and get back to you. I cannot promise a rapid response, as I am busily preparing to depart for Viet Nam.

Looking at the entry for them in 1881 in Runcorn, Cheshire, Thomas says he is 31 and born in Cornwall. This makes him born about 1850 so I went looking for 10/11 year old Thomas or Thomas H. Tamblyn/Tamblin/Tamblings for you in 1861 and found 2. One was born in Duloe and one born in St Germans. The St Germans born one was a Thomas H. He was actually in Charlestown, St Austell with his parents Simon born Pelynt and Rebecca born St Germans. Is it possible this is your man?

You found my man. I have recently obtained a marriage certificate for Thomas H for his second marriage he being then aged 58 and his bride was 22 it states his father as Simon Tambling, but I was uncertain about the christian name as it was a poor copy.
and I did not think that name would have been around at that time.

Dear Trish,

My Great Grandparents (Richard & Edith Hender) living in Torpoint, Cornwall during the 1901 Census had a domestic servant by the name of Eliza Jane Tamblyn Aged 24, so born 1877 in St Germans, Cornwall. I have not been able to find any reference to her in any other records, (my search has been limited). She appears in a family photograph holding a baby (my Grandfather) which I am in possession of. Is she one of yours? I may well post her in the 'Strays' section.
