I would be interested to know if anyone has succeeded in accessing any of the Good Shepherd Convent archives for ancestors in these institutions in the early 1900s. My particular ancestor was a "resident inmate" some considerable miles away from the family home, with a husband and three young children at the family home,on the 1901 census, I would dearly love to know why she was there!! Any leads would be really appreciated. Thanks Freddie

If you take a look at the following link and look under the section "Works of Charity" it might give you an idea about why your relative was there. As I suggested previously,I think your best bet would be to contact the people at Salford Diocese.

Hi UK Search
Thanks for your reply; I have tried the Salford Diocese, who were extremely helpful, but they do not have archives for The Good Shepherds, I am now hoping that I will eventually get the information through their mother house.
Thanks again. Freddie
