Looking for descendants...
Howard Bertram (aka Bert) Rice b. 1896 Belper, married to his cousin Gladys Emma Rice b. 1893.. In 1937 Bert moved to Matlock as Manager of Williams Deacon's Band, he retired in 1955. His parents, Freeman Rice and Martha Harriet were living in Dale Road Matlock when Freeman died in 1922.
Bert had a brother Gilford Lee Rice who ran a Grocers shop at Dale Road owned by his relative R.E. Lee who owned another shop in the Butts, Belper. He was also a lay preacher of some kind and I am told he would preach emotionally on street corners with tears streaming down his cheeks. . I have also been told that the shop is now Sweetings Antique Shop. Gilford never married.
Freeman Rice and his wife are both buried in St. Giles Cemetery Matlock. In the same Cemetery are Eliza and Samuel Rice, Eleanor Louise and Frank Potter and Joanne Claire. My informant believed they were related in some way.
I apologise for the long story, but I would very much like to gain more information particularly about the descendants of Howard..... any help would be welcome.
