Please could some kind reader who has access to a 1851, 1861 or 1871 census return for Cheshire please look up the Warhurst surname.
I am particularly looking for the parents of Elizabeth E Warhurst who was born C1850.
Any information would be greatfully received. Many thanks.

Was she born in Marple? Did she have two brothers,Joseph & Samuel both carpenters? If so in 1861 she was paying them a visit in Buxton at RG 9 2525 folio 23.

Thats the one I want. Where was she in 1861? The location might give her parents/siblings names. Have you the resources to check for me?
Many thanks for your help. michelle

Sorry for the confusion. Eliz. Ellen Warhurst who married George Broome is the lady I need. Family notes indicate that she originated from the Macclesfield area, which I believe Sutton St. James comes under. Marple is about 10 miles away from Macclesfield so there is a remote outside chance that this is the same Elizabeth Warhurst in the absence of any other evidence.
George Broome and his family all came from Macclesfield.
Thanks for you help.
Hi Michelle,
Checking for Elizabeth Broom on the 1871 census shows her birth place as Macclesfield. In 1871 she is a lodger aged 21, (householders Head name not given on index) With her is George Broom aged 21 and Sarah Broom aged 1. All Lodgers.
The ref is Civil Parish Hurdsfield, Macclesfield RG10/3670 Folio 8 Page 9
I think this will be her on the 1861 census:-
Hurdsfield, Macclesfield RG9/2576 Folio 79 Page 14
William Warhurst Head Mar 36 Caster born Macclesfield
Mary Ann Wife 32 Cotton Winder Born Staffs. Rushton
Elizabeth Ann Dau. 9 Born Macclesfield
Joseph Timothy Son 7 Born Macclesfield
William Son 4 Born Macclesfield
Timothy Son 2 Born Macclesfield
Note it gives second name as Ann not Ellen, this may be a numerators error as the mother is Mary Ann! She is in Hurdsfield on both censuses.
Cheers Jeremy

Hi Jeremy thanks for responding to my message.
I definately agree with your 1871 findings the Elizabeth, George and baby Sarah Broome are correct. My confusion lies with who her family were. I have just checked the William Warhurst (father) on the 1881 census, he has remarried and had alot more children but Elizabeth Ann is 29 years old and living at home with him. My Elizabeth Ellen Warhurst definately married George broome in 1869. So it can't be her. After there marriage they lived in Bollington where the remainder of the children were born.
I think it is back to the beginning again for seeking the parents of Elizabeth Ellen, unless I have go very confused and missed something.

There is a birth record of interest:
Elizabeth Warhurst, b: Dec qtr 1852, Macclesfield, Vol 8a, pg 99.
Though it may be for the one just above...
Best bet - send for the marriage certificate and get her father's name. Then we can do a search on the father in 1861 and get mother and siblings.

Just to add to the confusion. In 1881 Eli Warhurst and his family had 2 BROOME grandchildren living/visiting at home. Either these were the children of Elizabeth and George ( I have nor record of these names), or there was another Broome+Warhurst marriage.
In the 1861 census, was the daughter Ellen infact Elizabeth Ellen, as the age fits in?
The parish of Bollington is mentioned and all my notes on the children of Elizabeth & George Broome state they were all born in Bollington.
