Can anyone tell me what a Glove Hand would have been. On My GG Grandfathers B-cert it states his father was a glove hand. On another ancestors B -cert it states his father was a Marble Polisher, Journey Man ? Any help greatly appreciated. Lizz

Did look up Gendocs RANKS, PROFESSIONS, OCCUPATIONS AND TRADES, http://www.gendocs.demon.co.uk/trades.html unfortunately doesn't include Glove Hand.

"Glove hand: general term for workers on glove knitting machines, hand frame or rotary; includes frame hand on Cotton's patent machine, rotary frame hand etc"

Marble polisher means precisely what you'd expect it to mean - part of the stone cutting & dressing trade.

Journeyman: paid by the day (think of the French word) - not a master or apprentice.
