These two are my gggrandfathers brothers and the funny thing is he came out here free and these two would have been sent here at an early time.
Could you tell me if Mark is on the 1891 census for London. How would I find out what there crime was?

Hi Michelle,

This looks like Mark in 1891:

Civil parish: Camberwell
Ecclesiastical parish: Emmanuel
County/Island: London

Source information: RG12/463
Registration district: Camberwell
Sub registration district: Camberwell
ED, institution, or vessel: 7
Folio: 73
Page: 79
Schedule: 580

I can't help with finding out about the crimes. Perhaps it may help to post under the Institutions Forum?

Hi I just had a look at the 1881 census and Mark was in London by then so I was wondering if you could see if he is there in 1871. The address in 1881 is 92 St John st London, Middlesex and he is listed with wife Elizabeth 34 he would be 40 and was a dairyman.
Thanks
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

The only Mark Slades in the 1871 census on Ancestry are:

Mark Slade abt 1864 East Hagbourne, Berkshire, England Son East Hagbourne Berkshire
Mark Slade abt 1851 Shipley, Oxfordshire, England Dover Kent
Mark Slade abt 1801 Huish Episcopi, Somerset, England Head Huish Episcopi Somerset
Mark Slade abt 1825 Bremhill, Wiltshire, England Head Calne Wiltshire

I also tried to search for Elizabeth Slade Born c 1847 Bolder Hampshire but no joy - they may have married after 1871 of course.

Even searching for Mark born in Shepton was not successful.

Something seems wrong with the 1871 indexing though as the 1881 records eight Mark Slades born pre 1871.

Unfortunately Ancestry does not provide a facility to search an address.
