Hi Edwin,
I have been using The Master Genealogist for years and I am very happy with it but as Jayne says what works for me may not work for you.

I have Family Tree Maker 2005 and I think it's very good, it will do everything you say that you want ..... have you seen this thread?

"at present i am using the free mormon program but it is to resricive"
Perhaps if you explained exactly what it is that you find too restrictive about PAF, we could recommend something specific that is known not to suffer from the same restriction.
I notice that you're still having trouble with your keyboard and the shift key. I'm sure that if you posted a message in the Computer Help forum, someone would advise on a solution.

What problems are you encountering with PAF? (I assume that's the program you're refering to). There are some issues with how PAF exports/imports GEDCOM files, but it's not usually regarded as "restrictive" if that's what you meant to write.

many thanks edwinDo you really mean 'restrictive', or 'lacking in features'? Which features are you particularly looking for?
There have been several threads on these forums about software, try doing a search to find them.
There are also several web-sites with software reviews. I suggest you start by looking at Cyndi's list.
this urgent matter Different folks prefer different programs. All those mentioned in other posts are good choices. This is a major decision you are making, because it will affect your research, possibly for many years. Take your time in choosing. (I know, it's dull, especially compared with finding the next ancester, but worthwhile.)
Christopher (still using Generations, although it is no longer being developed. It does what I want)

Hi
I have been using Brothers Keeper for about 10 years, I have tried others but keep going back to BK as I find the others too complicated to use, well not that they are complicated, but the way you manoeuvre around BK is so straight forward. Its free to download from S & N.
Cheers
Sue
