I am trying to trace the mother of Fan Pettengell. Fan was born in the
Islington area of london about 1862. Her fathers name was Thomas Pettengell. He may have come from Hertford, and his job was a coal porter.
Any help much appreciated.

Hello,

My best friend happens to be a Pettengell - his family hail from South London. He believes that the family name came originally from the Port of Cale (or Kale - unsure of the spelling) in Portugal.

If you have any connections with South London I will gladly put you in touch with my friend if you would like to pm me your email address.

Best regards,

Miranda
