Hi, I'm a descendant of Charles Henry Johnson born 1871 Lincs married to Mary Ann Smith b. 1872 Lincs. I'm trying to trace Charles Johnsons parents, believed to be John Johnson & Sarah (according to my deceased grandmothers notes). I found a Sarah J Johnson on 1881 census living 34 Chapman St Grimsby with children Charles H Johnson, Fanny J, Elizabeth A, William G & Fred A Johnson, but Sarah J Johnson is HEAD of house, no John Johnson. I do know Charles Henry Johnson (my grandfather) was a fisherman, so possibly his own father, john Johnson was at sea also? My grandmothers notes state Johns wife 'Sarah' was also tied to 'Mr Royal' & 'Mr Needham' so I'm guessing she married 3 times? I dont even know her maiden name! Anyone have this family in their tree or can help in any way? Thanks in advance, Anice
I'm also researching the name 'Lock', 'Colebrook' & 'Croft'

The following is part of my familly tree:
John Lewis Bonnett, b. abt. 1847, married Elizabeth Johnson b. abt. 1849, Toynton, Lincs., daughter of Joseph Johnson b. 1816 and his wife Elizabeth b. 1826 and sister of George Johnson, b. abt. 1860. John Lewis and Elizabeth had issue.

Hi Anice,
This looks like your family in the 1871 census of Waltham, Lincs:
RG10/3416, folio 18, page 5
27 Cheapside
John JOHNSON Head Mar 28 Ag Lab Lincolnshire Waltham
Sarah J do Wife Mar 26 Housewife do Ludbrough
Ada R do Daughr 4 Scholar do Waltham
Fanny J do Daughr 2 do do
Charles H do Son 9 mo do do
This looks like John JOHNSON in the 1861 census of Waltham:
RG9/2390, folio 79, page 16
Waltham Grove
Elizabeth JOHNSON Wife Mar 46 Shepherd's wife Lincolnshire Barnoldby-le-Beck
John do Son Un 20 Ag Lab do Waltham
Joseph do Son Un 14 do do do
Thomas do Son Un 11 do do do
I can't find a marriage with any certainty for John & Sarah J, so I think you should order the birth certificate of one of the children which will then tell you Sarah's maiden name. Family History Online has a lot of records for Lincolnshire including burial records for Waltham which could be useful to you. It is a pay per view site but £5 will enable you to look at a lot of records. John must have died between 1871 and 1881 as Sarah J is shown as a widow in the 1881 census
There is also an extracted baptismal record on Hugh Wallis's IGI site of a John Taylor JOHNSON at Waltham on 20 September 1840, father Jeremiah, mother Elizabeth which may be relevant to you plus a couple of sisters.
