I am looking for my gt gt gt grandparents Stephen Hartley and his wife would be Jane Ledger. Their children that i know of are Ann b1831 Hensingham and Jane b c1835 Whitehaven. I know what happened to Ann and Jane from 1861 but not who their siblings were (short of the IGI search)

Hello Jeremy
Thank you for that. I only learnt tonight of a sibling Stephen from someone i contacted in vain hope i would find a connection to my Hartleys. I am still not 100% convinced yet. As far as im aware through marriage cerificates the father Stephen has died by 1852 and the mother Jane by 1870. Havnt found these deaths yet but maybe i should look for her as Mary ? !
One thing that didnt occur to me (as my Ancestry sub ran out just as they introduced the 1851 census) ..was to sign up for a free 2 week trial (again) !! :D but i am begining to remember how irritating it was.

Well, i missed that death on freebmd and it didnt occur to me to look for a remarriage |shakehead if its the case. If it is all correct my gt gt grandmother had a sadder life than i already knew about.
Many thanks...........
Hi Tracey,
Just found a Stephen Hartley marriage December quarter 1846 Whitehaven!!
Nothing is ever straight forward is it? maybe he remarried twice, can't see a death record for him pre 1852.

Boy, he didnt wait long then ;)
I havnt found a death for him but i know he had died by 1852 as i found a marriage notice on a Cumberland marriage index that mentions it as it doesnt say deceased on the actual marriage cert.
LINTON-HARTLEY, On the 6th of July,1852 at St. Nicholas' Church, by the Rev. F. W. WICKS, Mr. LINTON, watch-maker and jeweller, Roper Street, to Anne, daughter of the late Mr. HARTLEY, of Church Street, in this town
So it must be true ;)
