Does anyone recognise this couple please :
William Briggs married a Catherine Briggs in Liverpool September 1871.
From the 1881 census onwardsthey are living in Cumberland although William has died by the 1891.
They were a family of Butchers.
A daughter Flora Briggs born Liverpool (as was her brother John W) married into my Whitfield family.
Did a BRIGGS really marry another BRIGGS? Just wondering if this is a typo or they actually had the same surname...

I do not know if you have the marriage certificate yet, but I had a look at it today at the library. I don't envy you trying to sort them out!

This couple married in Liverpool but according to the 1881 census they were both born in Cumberland. I think this will be them both in 1861:-

I don't know if there was any relationship between the families but they are living very close to each other in 1861. The fact William is a servant at 12 suggests he is an orphan. There was also a housekeeper named Mary Briggs, unmarried aged 35 in the same house. Note Catherine had a brother Robert, the probable witness at the marriage. In 1881 Catherine gives her birth place as Bridekirk, it's the next village to Tallentire. William gives his as Brigham, a few miles north of Loweswater, but if he was orphaned at an early age it's doubtful he would know where he was born exactly.
