hello list i have found an old parchment that is a discharge doc belonging to my g/grandfather william mulcahy. He was in the 47th foot reg he was born 1844 at Carrickaline County Cork joined the army when20yrs old left after 10yrs service and on the doc it states he was discharged at Aldershot in Sept1874. He also had an army pension because i can make out Royal hos chelsea 1892.I did apply to the reg and sent£20 but just rec a history of reg.How can i find out about him? have looked him up in the 1891 cen he was living in Birkenhead but just says he was from Ireland. Any help would be appreciated thanks bernadine

The National Archive at Kew may have documents that refer to him. The WO12 series of documents cover the General Muster books and Pay lists for the 44th Regiment. Also try WO 97/1562 1855-72, which are The Royal Hospital Chesea service records.
