Hello
I am new to the list today so please excuse any errors
I am at a dead end in researching my Family in Middlesex everything leads to more mystery. I was unsure if I should put all my requests here - or just start with one?
Would somebody who has access to the Pallott's Marriage index please see if there is a marriage of a James COXFORD in the 1820's possibly in Stepney -to Mary ? my gg grandmother.
Mary? remarried my gg grandfather in 1852 the marriage certificate did not give me a great lead as to who this Mary was.
My G grandmother's birth can not be located. I have found a baptism in Poplar.
any help is much appreciated I am in Australia
Cheers Lyn

Hello Lyn,
If your Mary was having children after civil registration was introduced into Australia, then you should find her maiden name on children's birth certificates.
This site has what info you should find on Aussie certs, and mother's maiden name is one of them. An 1852 marriage would be a parish record, so her parents names wouldn't be recorded.

By the way, don't get frightened off by the "repeating text", it wasn't anything you did - there is a glitch in the forum software and it does it with longer messages.

Hi
Thanks for the reply these people were never in Australia
James COXFORD married I think Saint Dunstan, Stepney, London
Mary? . All her children were baptised there in the 1830's
James COXFORD died in 1845 Poplar Middlesex.
I bought the Marriage certificate of the marriage to my gg grandfather in 1852 of Mary ? to James MACKINTOSH it states her father was Richard B GUSON I can't find anything in this name of any benefit and believe the spelling may be incorrect. Her birth can not be found either all dead ends.
I wanted to check her maiden name in the Pallot's Marriage Index to James COXFORD.
Thanks Lyn

If you can't read the marriage certificate because of bad reproduction, you had best complain to the issuing office. If you can't decipher the handwriting, make it visible to us and we'll all have a go!
If the Mackintosh marriage is the one registered in March 1852 in St George in the East, you'll see from FreeBMD that the only Marys listed are Mary COXFORD and Mary Ann TOMISON. Do either of those seem to be possibilities?
This index only lists two marriages for a James Coxford, neither to a Mary I'm afraid. One is however in 1827:-
Jas Coxford m Sophia Atkins @ Bircham St. Mary Norfolk 1827
The other marriage was to Charlotte Cooper @ Docking 1795

Hi Lyn
I would start with one step at a time. To find your great grandmother's birth you need to tell us her full name and where she was born. You say you have found a baptism in Poplar, how do you know this is the right person and when did that event take place.
Events prior to September 1837 always tend to be more difficult because there are fewer sources of information.

Hi Lyn
Looking on FreeBMD I could not see the birth but then their coverage for this period is not very good as yet. Perhaps soemone with access to 1837online might be able to find the birth reference for CHRISTINA ELIZABETH MACKINTOSH, assuming that the birth was registered. Once you have that you can order a copy of the birth certificate which may provide the necessary information about her mother. I assume your friend found the baptism in the parish records? Looking at that census record it suggests that she is the daughter of James but maybe the baptism did not occur until she was 3 years of age.
James' first marriage may be difficult to find. I think you can assume that is them in the 1861 census, he could have married in theory at any time after 1811 if his age is correct, possibly in Scotland, so not much help there.

Hi Again
I was hoping that I may have foud James McINTOSH/MACKINTOSH in the 1851 Middlesex census with perhaps a child living with him from the previous marriage. As I can not find Christina' s Birth Certificate, I may have been able to locate a certificate for her sibling.
I have just about given up I have been looking for years.
Thanks for your help.
cheers Lyn

Hi LynI can't promise anything but I will add CHRISTINA ELIZABETH MACKINTOSH to the list of people I am looking for when I next visit Myydleton St. Just occassionaly people are in the books who for some reason have been missed out when the systems were computerised.

Hi
Would somebody advise me if there is such a thing as a Non Conformist Birth Register for Poplar - Middlesex in the 1850's please. Being in Australia I am not familiar with your records. If so where could they be accessed?
Cheers Lyn
